CHANDIGARH: In what has thrown the police departments of both Uttranchal and Chandigarh in a tizzy, a gang of inter-state criminals has procured four .38 bore revolvers - a prohibited bore - from two arms dealers in the city using fake documents.
What is of graver concern, though, is that the documents bore authorisation from the Dehradun DM, raising fears of its possible misuse here and in Uttranchal .

"It's a very serious matter. It was brought to my notice on Friday. I have ordered an inquiry by a gazetted officer and will receive the report in two days. Information to UT police has also been dispatched," Dehradun SSP Sanjay Gunjyal while talking to TOI on Saturday.
He said a case would be registered once the inquiry sheds light on actual place of occurrence of the crime.
The weapons, a favourite among hardcore criminals for their lethalness, were procured by a middle-aged man who identified himself as Ashok Kumar Jain, a 'partner' in Dehradun-based Himalayan Arms, on July 6.
While two of the revolvers were bought from Manimajra-based Chandigarh Gun House, two others were purchased from Ahuja Arms in Sector 22. "The documents produced by him showed that he had got weapons from several other places.

But later another Dehradun dealer told us that nobody by this name probably existed in Himalayan Arms and when we cross-checked, we realised that the man had duped us," an anxious Ravi Ahuja of Ahuja Arms said.
Local dealers made a complaint to the deputy commissioner on July 31 and with additional information on August 2, demanding police action into the matter.
RK Rao, the DC here, said he has sought details regarding the case from his counterpart in Dehradun. "It's a grave matter and we will investigate it thoroughly," Rao added.
Binny of Himalayan Arms, which is among the oldest weapon dealers in Dehradun but does not have authorisation to sell prohibited .38 bore weapons, explained that the accused had exploited his shop's name.
"I feel threatened," he said, adding, "I have brought the matter to the notice of the authorities and I hope that the accused is caught soon."
